Primitive Modernism is a Los Angeles based jewelry design company whose first collection ‘Excavation’ is available in limited quantities. The collection, which offers earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings, echoes times past. Each piece has the earmark of an ancient relic, unearthed in an archaeological dig. The collection gathers inspiration from the ancient tribal cultures of the world, recognizing the beauty in handmade objects which were crafted from natural materials. The colors, patterns, and textures found in their ritual adornments, habitats, textiles, and pottery are a continual influence in the Primitive Modernism debut collection.

A Los Angeles native, Primitive Modernism designer Susan Joy Brownstein grew up in a creative home surrounded by art, music, and dance. Though Susan originally pursued a Marine Sciences degree to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian for marine mammals, it was her love of the arts which ultimately led her collegiate studies to switch focus. She went on to learn the fundamental skills of such disciplines as Photography, Fine Art, Printmaking, Graphic Design, and Jewelry Design and developed her natural eye for color and composition.
Over the years Susan has created several limited edition jewelry collections including, most recently, a hand-carved walnut wood collection called 'Geometry,' which featured delicate geometric shapes draped in gold wire and crystals. Susan has an impeccable ability to sculpt raw materials, transforming the organic into modern; creating timeless treasures that are sculptural yet elegant. Moved by fine handmade craftsmanship, innovative design and the beauty that ensues from the marriage of the two, each piece that Susan designs is a work of art that has been thoughtfully created with these elements in mind.
Susan also has a boutique graphic design agency where she creates fresh and boldly designed websites & printed goods for small businesses and events - local and worldwide. You can visit Susan's graphic design portfolio here: www.SusanJoyBrownstein.com
